Applications to join the aAh! print magazine team and be part of the upcoming LEGACY themed issue are now open


We are looking for talented Writers, Editors, Proofreaders, Graphic Designers, Photographers and Illustrators to form the 2024 aAh! print production team known as the aAh! Print Editorial and Design Collective. We need inventive and creative team players to curate the new print issue of aAh! Magazine and work collaboratively.

Each print issue of aAh! Magazine interrogates one word which runs as a theme through our regular features, opinion pieces, spotlights, interviews, previews, art, poetry, flash fiction, photography and music.

The theme for our Spring 2024 magazine is LEGACY.

We are currently recruiting for a number of volunteer roles and welcome applications and contributions from students for the following roles: 

  • Writers/Journalists

  • Subeditors

  • Proofreaders

  • Art Directors

  • Graphic Designers

  • Photographers

  • Illustrators

  • Photo Editors

​The team will work collaboratively on a range of projects including aAh! print magazine, associated online platforms and marketing campaigns.

This project is part of the Man Met Rise programme and 300 Rise will be awards at completion. More information about Rise is available at rise.mmu.ac.uk

We will be meeting regularly on Wednesday afternoons, creating a hybrid (campus and online) virtual production studio to create and edit content, design, collaborate and share ideas. During online weeks, you are welcome to stay on the call of the virtual studio or drop-in and out.

Our next briefing session will take place in January 2024. This will be followed by a series of alternating weekly campus and online workshops.

Requirements:

  • A passion for student media, journalism, editing and/or design

  • Strong organisational and communication skills

  • Ability to work as a proactive team member

  • Excellent IT skills, especially with InDesign and photo-editing software - Exceptional creativity and innovation

  • Accuracy and attention to detail

  • You will be required to attend regular weekly team meetings and design sessions, and work to professional deadlines on live briefs.

Overall, we ask that all members of the aAh! team work enthusiastically, collaboratively and passionately throughout this project to ensure their team members feel supported and part of a strong team.
